Prepare an approved master, rights record, artwork, metadata, distributor decision, release date and campaign handoff before submitting your first AI music single.
AI ARTIST MILESTONE 7 OF 20 · PREPARE THE FIRST RELEASE
Prepare and Release Your First AI Music Single
Move from “I have a finished song” to an approved release package, verified submission and controlled campaign handoff.
The milestone movement
A song becomes a release only when the audio, artwork, information, rights records, delivery route and campaign destination agree. Distribution is the final handoff. It is not the place where unresolved creative, rights or metadata decisions should be discovered.
Required input
An organized catalogue, authoritative master, rights record, approved credits and a functioning artist-owned home.
Free outcome
A complete first-single package submitted through an appropriate release route.
Member outcome
A validated release system with evidence, corrections, live verification and governance.
Formal Milestone 6 handoff
Bring the live artist-home URL, approved artist name, biography, disclosure, featured release, primary visitor, campaign action, email or return route, contact route, social-preview image, analytics event and page-test record.
Also import the Milestone 4 authoritative version and the Milestone 5 rights, contribution, source, licence, collaborator, credit and intended-use records.
What release-ready means
Creative readiness
The song, arrangement, edit, mix, master and clean or explicit decision are approved.
Technical readiness
The correct audio file, artwork export, filenames, playback result and archive copy are confirmed.
Rights and metadata readiness
Sources, contributors, credits, public claims, disclosure and required release fields are documented.
Campaign readiness
The owned destination, objective, CTA, release copy, teaser source material and measurement plan are ready.
A release is not ready because one category is complete. All four must agree.
Select the correct first single
The newest or most complex song is not automatically the strongest first release. Compare realistic candidates for artist alignment, emotional clarity, memorable hook, production quality, rights confidence, artwork readiness, audience relevance, teaser potential, owned-home fit and future catalogue connection.
Use these decisions: first-release candidate, future single, supporting track, needs revision, rights hold, archive.
The complete release package
Audio
Authoritative master, clean or explicit version, instrumental where useful, approved archive and verified filename.
Visuals
Approved cover, source file, platform-ready export, social preview and provenance record.
Information
Artist, title, writers, producers, contributors, genre, language, release date, notices, lyrics and disclosure.
Rights
Contribution, source, permission, licence, collaborator, claim and intended-use records.
Campaign
Owned URL, objective, CTA, teaser moments, announcement copy, tracking and reporting record.
Metadata is prepared before upload
Prepare the primary artist, featured artists, title, version title, writers, composers, producers, language, genre, explicit status, release date, original-release status, copyright information, phonographic copyright information, label where used, territories, contributor roles, lyrics and disclosure before opening the distributor form.
The artwork, distributor submission, website, lyric sheet, proof record and campaign copy must use matching names and titles.
Choose a distributor without assuming acceptance
Compare current AI-content policy, rights and impersonation rules, pricing, renewal, commission, review time, delivery destinations, profile support, splits, Content ID, corrections, takedowns, support, payouts, tax requirements and catalogue transfer.
Record the distributor, official policy destination, date checked, plan, listed currency, cost, renewal terms, limitations and reason selected.
Approve a defensible release date
Allow time for distributor review, corrections, artist-profile setup, platform delivery, owned-page updates, collaborator approvals, teaser creation and email preparation. A release date is approved only when there is enough time to submit, correct, verify, prepare, announce and measure.
Submission is not the end
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Prepared | All files and fields are ready. |
| Submitted | The package was sent to the distributor or chosen route. |
| Accepted or delivered | Processing or platform delivery was confirmed. |
| Live and verified | The release appears correctly and the owned destination works. |
The seven release gates
- Song Gate: correct candidate and master.
- Rights Gate: evidence supports intended use.
- Asset Gate: artwork, lyrics and files are complete.
- Metadata Gate: all public fields agree.
- Distributor Gate: current policy and plan fit.
- Campaign Gate: page, objective and audience route are ready.
- Submission Gate: confirmation is saved and monitoring assigned.
A failed critical gate blocks submission.
Worked example: Ember Vale
Ember Vale has six finished songs. The most complex track initially feels like the obvious debut, but an audit finds an uploaded vocal fragment without clear permission evidence, artwork that cannot be traced and weak short-form entry points.
A simpler original song has stronger artist alignment, documented sources, approved artwork, a memorable chorus and three usable teaser moments. It becomes the first single.
The approved package includes the WAV master, lyric sheet, artwork source, platform export, credits, proof summary, distributor decision, release date, artist-home URL, campaign objective and submission confirmation. Sample campaign targets are 100 qualified page visits and 20 email signups; these are planning targets, not promises.

Common mistakes
- Scheduling before the rights review is complete.
- Selecting the newest song instead of the strongest introduction.
- Uploading the wrong master or changing it without a record.
- Using inconsistent artist or title spelling.
- Improvising credits during upload.
- Using unverified artwork or uploaded audio.
- Assuming distributor acceptance proves ownership.
- Enabling Content ID without checking eligibility.
- Announcing before delivery is confirmed.
- Losing submission receipts or assigned identifiers.
- Sending listeners only to a streaming service instead of the owned destination.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI-generated songs be released publicly?
Potentially, when the creator has the necessary rights, records and permissions and satisfies current distributor and platform requirements.
Do distributors accept AI-generated music?
Policies differ and change. Verify official requirements directly before every submission.
How early should I submit?
Early enough for review, correction, delivery, profile setup and meaningful pre-release work.
Must AI use be disclosed?
Requirements depend on the platform, distributor, jurisdiction and nature of the release. Separate required disclosure from voluntary transparency.
Do I need an ISRC or UPC first?
Some release routes assign identifiers while others require them. Record who assigns each identifier and keep it in the release register.
Can I change the audio after submission?
That may require replacement, correction or a new submission. Never change the governing master silently.
Should I enable Content ID?
Only after confirming the release is eligible and that the rights evidence supports that use.
