7-Day Creator Format Decision Plan: Choose What to Build First

Use seven focused decisions to choose one primary format, one delivery model and the exact boundaries of your first complete version.

This is a complete free implementation path. You do not need the VIP lesson to finish Milestone 7.

By Day 7 you will have a saved Primary Format and Delivery Decision Record defining what you will build first, why it fits, how people receive it, what version one includes, what it excludes and what risk must be controlled.

Gather your project definition, intended audience, outcome, central message, Milestone 6 research and two to four possible formats.

Day 1 — Define the audience experience

How does the audience realistically need to use this project?

Why it matters

A format can sound impressive and still fail in the audience’s real environment.

Working time

Approximately 30–45 minutes.

Steps

  1. Describe where and when the audience will use the project.
  2. Choose the primary action: read, listen, watch, practise, participate or reference.
  3. Decide whether use is once, in sequence, repeatedly or on demand.
  4. Remove formats that conflict with that reality.
Worked example — beginner AI music guide: The audience follows steps on a laptop while checking examples on a phone. They need searchable written instructions and short demonstrations. A two-hour unstructured video is a weak primary format.

Day 2 — Match the format to the outcome

What must the format actually help the audience understand, feel, complete or decide?

Steps

  1. Write the promised outcome in one sentence.
  2. Identify whether it requires demonstration, practice, reflection, reference, feedback or emotional immersion.
  3. Test every remaining format against that requirement.
  4. Remove any format that cannot deliver the promise without becoming something else.
Worked example: A podcast can explain a release workflow, but exact metadata steps may be difficult to follow in audio alone. The stronger primary format may be a written guide with audio as support.

Day 3 — Test creator capability and production reality

Which format can you complete to a credible standard with your actual time, tools, skills and budget?

Separate four kinds of effort

  • Creation: making the project
  • Delivery: publishing and providing access
  • Maintenance: updating and sustaining it
  • Support: helping users after release
Worked example: A podcast may look easier than a course, but a weekly podcast creates recurring research, recording, editing, show-note and distribution commitments. A six-episode season may be more realistic than an indefinite show.

Day 4 — Compare the strongest options

The highest score is not automatically the winner. Remove a format with a fatal weakness: poor audience fit, inability to deliver the outcome, unaffordable production, unsustainable maintenance, unresolved rights or dependence on unavailable access.

Day 5 — Choose the delivery model
